Week Zero

Week zero provides you with the opportunity to access the general course materials early so that you can become familiar with the course, it's navigation, and your instructor's expectations. Due to the holidays, we are unable to open the course as early as we would normally have liked. However, please use this time to login and start looking around.

Additional Resources From UW-Stout

To ensure a successful first week in your course, we’ve developed an online orientation to familiarize you with Learn@ UWStout, the tool you will be using to access your online course.

Video Tutorial - How to Login to Your Course http://www.uwstout.edu/static/lts/tutorials/D2L_quick_tips/how_to_login_to_d2l.wvx

Set aside one hour to complete the orientation.

This tutorial will give you a chance to practice some new skills and get acquainted with the web navigation in Learn @UW-Stout.

  1. Login at: http://www.uwstout.edu/lit/learn/index.cfm
Bookmark this site because you will access it each time you login to your class.
  2. Click on UW-Stout Login in the upper right (for UW-Stout students and instructors).
  3. Enter your UW-Stout username (without the @my.uwstout.edu, for example a user name would look like this: vanderveldej) and your password. The password is the same password you use to log into your university email. For any problems with your username or password, please email [email protected] or call 715-232-5000.
  4. Scroll down to Ongoing under the course list; click on the link: Online Student Orientation
As you enter the orientation, the first thing you will notice is a News Bulletin on the opening page guiding you through each of the activities.

Video Transcript

>> BOWERSOX-JOHNSON: Hello, all. This is Kevin, your instructor for Trends & Issues in Instructional Design at UW-Stout.

I wanted to make this quick video to give you a face and a voice to go along with my name.

For some of you I know this might be your first online course, and I want to make that transition as smooth as possible.

Here at UW-Stout you have a great advantage called Week Zero. This is where you can log into the course and become familiar with the navigation before the official course begins. It's not required that you login during this time, but I highly recommend it. Week Zero begins one week prior to the official start date of our course. Again, it's really highly recommended that you login because we find that students who take advantage of this

It is not required that you login, but I highly recommend that you do. We find the students that take advantage of Week Zero are much more successful during the course itself.

Other than that, I hope that you have already ordered, if not have already received your textbook for the course: Designing Effective Instruction, 6th Edition. If you have any questions or comments, you can find my contact information below on this page and also inside of our course. Feel free to contact for anything. That's what I'm here for. Other than that, I will "see" you in the forums and I look forward to our eight weeks together. Ciao!
