How do I make an attachment to an email or discussion posting? To make an attachment to an email or message posting, do the following:
You can optionally attach ONE file from your own computer to any post in the forums. This file is uploaded to the server and stored with your post. This is useful when you want to share a picture, for example, or a Word document. This file can be of any type, however it is highly recommended that the file is named using standard 3-letter internet suffixes such as .doc for a Word document, .jpg or .png for an image, and so on. This will make it easier for others to download and view your attachment in their browsers. If you re-edit a posting and attach a new file, then any previous attached files for that post will be replaced. If you re-edit a posting with an attachment and leave this space blank, then the original attachment will be retained. |
If I'm using an attachment, what file extension should I save the document as? In order to make sure everyone can open and read your attachment, it is best to "save as" a .rtf or .htm document. |
My message didn't post. Can I retrieve it? If in fact your message didn't post, there is no way to retrieve it. It's a good idea to create long messages (like assignments) in a word processor and save that message so it can easily be reposted. However, first make sure the message really is "lost" by doing the following:
|
I posted a message in the wrong forum or posted it before I was ready to do so. What can I do? Moodle allows you to edit / delete a message up to 30 minutes after you have posted it. However , you are unable to move the message into a different topic. |
How do I use the HTML editor in Moodle Forums? Moodle's Richtext HTML editor provides a word-processor interface embedded in your web page to allow you to edit text in an intuitive way, and produces normal HTML code. In addition to formatting text, this editor provides a number of extra features you may find useful. Click here to read more |
Is there a spell checker in Moodle? Currently, there is no spell checker in Moodle. I suggest you cut-and-paste your message into a word processing application (e.g. MS Word) to spell check your work before you post it in a Moodle forum. |
What happens if I can't log in to the course for several days? Attendance in this course is measured by completion of the assignments in a timely fashion and participating in course discussions. Completion of assignments and the level and quality of interaction will be the primary measures of student involvement and attendance in the course. If illness, an emergency, or some other situation prevents you from completing assignments, contact your instructor as soon as possible. Note: If a student does not complete assignments for a period of one week, the instructor will attempt to contact the student to discuss the situation. Any student who does not log on for one week or consistently does not complete assignments on schedule will be dropped from the course. |
What is the policy related to unacceptable conduct? Instructors reserve the right to deny participants access to MVCR courses based on unacceptable behavior or conduct including (but not limited to) racist or derogatory remarks, foul language, inflammatory comments, condescending or rude remarks, or flaming. |
If I can't complete the work during the course, can I make get an "incomplete" and finish it later? MVCR does not offer Incomplete status or a late make-up policy for work not completed during the course period. All course work must be completed by the last day of the course in order to be considered for evaluation and to receive continuing education credit. |
Can I turn in late assignments as long as the course is still in session? In general, most instructors will accept occasional late assignments. However most assignments should be completed before the close of the module in which they are presented. Contact your instructor via the course email if you find you need to post a late assignment. Note: Consistently posting assignments late without instructor permission is unacceptable and may result in the assignment not counting for a grade and in extreme situations may even be a condition for dropping the student from the class. |
What do I do if I need to withdraw from the course? If you wish to withdraw from a course, contact the course instructor to inform him/her of your intentions. If you have paid tuition and you withdraw before the seventh business day after the course begins, you are eligible for a tuition refund NOTE: Students registered through University of Illinois, Springfield most contact UIS Office of Records and Admissions for refund policy. We ask you to carefully consider your decision to register in an MVCR course. We want to fill every available seat in our courses with participating faculty and staff. If you enroll and do not participate you are taking a spot that someone else could have used to experience online learning and to form new relationships with others teaching online. Individuals who have enrolled in two or more courses that have not been completed will not be able to enroll in future courses unless they have communicated by phone with one of the MVCR staff members. |
How will do I have to perform in the course to get CEU credit and/or complete my MOT? You must complete the course with a minimum of 80% completion of points possible in the course. |
I'm an experienced instructor and content expert. Why do I need to learn about instructional design? Most higher education faculty are indeed content experts in their field. However since you don't have to be certified to teach at a higher education institution, must faculty do not have a background in "how to teach". Learning the basics of instructional design will make the transition from F2F to online teaching easier and more efficient and effective for you and your students. It will also do the same for your F2F classes as you apply these concepts and practices to your profession. |
How often should I log in to the course? Logging in frequently to the course is the best suggestion. What is frequent? Typically, logging in a couple of times a day (particularly to check in with your group) for a short period of time will keep you current. You should probably log in 5 or 6 days a week to keep up with all the discussions. Never let more than 48 hours pass without logging in. If you are going to be "absent" for more than two days, it is a good idea to let your group members and instructor know. |
Can I access the course after it concludes? Yes, the course will be available indefinitely for you to return to after the course concludes. This will allow you to revisit when you need to check out something you need or didn't have time to read during the course. |
